I can appreciate how crappy the head unit is. But big improvement and Mrs. O.C. is happy, so I’ll settle.

I always replace the head unit first as they are usually bad and a new HU can improve stock speakers

Look at the picture I posted. Like a head unit could make that speaker worth listening to? I don't think so.

Possibly  not but at the same time you’d be surprised is the differences you can get on stock speakers with a different HU

Yeah. I’m not going to tear the dash apart though. And the existing HU is tied into dash top display, requiring another adapter gizmo @ $130. This sounds good enough for big band and classical music from the Romantic Period and a damn sight better than it did.
